Film Food

By J.A. Dettman

Last weekend we attended an enjoyable dinner party at the home of another of Beloit College’s faculty. Unlike most, this one had a theme: Film Food. The party was a potluck and the idea was that everyone brought a dish that somehow related to a film.

The party was a good time and I spent a fair chunk of it chatting with folks that I’ve come to know in my time as a faculty spouse (working at the college bookstore helps, too, though fewer people tend to recognize me from that part of my life).

What with all of the inventive food that people brought to the party, it seemed like the party was missing a voting and awards system to highlight the theme and give folks a good chuckle. Of course, I’m sure that’s just me because everyone was having plenty of fun without that. It just seems like the guy who brought the “chilled monkey brains” in the elaborately decorated coconut deserved a little more recognition.
